WHAT: Write the first page of a novel set in 150 years from now, exploring how a modern day current affairs event or trend has played out. Your entry must be between 300-400 words in length. Your entry also needs a title, which is not included in the word limit.
WHEN: The prize is open to submissions from 9 a.m. ET on Feb. 1, 2025 to 11:59 p.m. ET on Feb. 28, 2025.
WHO: This contest is open to all Canadian residents who are full-time students enrolled in Grades 7 to 12. Entries will be judged in two age categories: Grades 7 to 9 and Grades 10 to 12.

WHAT YOU CAN WIN: The winner of each category will receive a one-year subscription to OwlCrate, which delivers monthly boxes of books and literary-related goodies. The school library of each winner will also receive a donation of 50 books.
WHO IS JUDGING? A team of Canadian literary experts will select the shortlist. The final judge, S.K. Ali, will determine the winners of the two categories.

WHAT: Submit your original, unpublished stories up to 2000 words in length. There is no minimum word requirement.
WHEN: Submission period is open from January 1, 2025 to March 1, 2025 at 17:00 p.m. ET.
WHO: All Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada who have reached the age of majority.

WHAT YOU CAN WIN: The winner receives $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, will have their story published on CBC Books and will have the opportunity to attend a 2-weeks writing residency at the Banff Center. Four finalists will each receive $1,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and have their story published on CBC Books.
WHO IS JUDGING? A team of readers from across Canada will read the entries and determine the longlist. The shortlist and winner will be decided by the 2025 jury.
